The statue of AIADMK founder MGR, which was installed at Mannargudi, has been waiting for unveiling for several years for various reasons. The AIADMK cadre continue to stage protests, demanding to open the statue.

However, on Tuesday, the AIADMK cadre were surprised to see the MGR statue and that of Jayalalithaa beside opened in the late hours. Both the statues were adorned with garlands. The elated cadre, who celebrated the opening of the statues for which they were demanding for several years, were not aware of the persons who opened the statues secretly.

Still, the cadre felt that the AIADMK candidates who got victory in the local body polls should have removed the cover and paid floral tribute at both the statues. This had surprised the AMMK cadre also.

Meanwhile, the police, who were also not aware of the incident, have been searching for the persons who opened the statues without their permission.
