The weather office has forecast more rains later this week in Tamil Nadu's southern districts.

The region has been lashed by northeast monsoon showers for weeks.

More than 4 cms of rainfall was recorded in the area, the weather office said.

The forecast said the rains are being caused by a depression east of Sri Lanka in the Bay of Bengal.

It said fishermen should avoid the seas due to stormy conditions.

The weather department also said Chennai and its surrounding areas were hit by continuous rains for over an hour on Sunday.
