May day celebrated in Pondicherry

Hoisting of flags and distribution of sweets by various trade unions and political parties marked the May Day celebrations in Pondicherry on Wednesday.

Trade Unions including INTUC, AITUC and CITU and political parties like CPI,CPI-M  hoisted flags and distributed sweets to mark the occasion.

Meanwhile, employees from various government boards and corporations affiliated to the Puducherry Government Employees Central Federation observed the day as a "Black Day".

They hoisted black flags, wore black badges and sat in a dharna near the Swadeshi Cotton Mills here in protest against the failure of the government to disburse their salary for several months.

Lt. Governor Kiran Bedi, Chief Minister V Narayanasamy, his Cabinet Colleagues and leaders of different political parties greeted the working class.
