Handlooms and Textiles Minister OS Manian on Wednesday accepted the challenge of DMK senior leader Duraimurugan to debate on the contributions of the rival parties in the Cauvery dispute.

Manian, who rebuffed the DMK leader for his vitriolic remarks on Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami, urged Duraimurugan to fix a date and venue for the debate.

“Duraimurugan should know better of his party which has done nothing on the Cauvery issue, but is foregoing the rights of state on multiple occasions,” he said. Manian trotted out a list of negative impacts the DMK has had over time since 1967.

Since the Telugu Ganga dispute, Manian held the DMK accountable for everything that transpired afterwards regarding Cauvery and as the very basis for the water-sharing dispute which has prolonged for four decades.

“Perhaps Duraimurugan should reveal as to who was the person who urged former Karnataka Chief Minister SM Krishna not to release water from Cauvery as it might increase the currency of the AIADMK,” Manian said, referring to the biography of Krishna.

“I want to know who that person is. I am ready to debate everything and hope Duraimurugan would fix the venue,” he said. Duraimurugan had on Tuesday ridiculed Palaniswami as an ‘accidental CM’ who should get his facts right on the Cauvery issue.
