Man gets life till death for impregnating woman

Upon repeated inquiry, the woman revealed that Elangovan was the culprit and so the parents lodged a complaint with the Vikkiramangalam police who registered a case and arrested him.

TIRUCHY: Ariyalur Mahila Court awarded life till death to a man who threatened a woman and sexually assaulted her.

In 2019, Elangovan (50), a resident from Senguli village near Vikkiramangalam in Ariyalur, who was grazing goats in a field near the village, had threatened a 21-year-old woman who was also grazing goats and sexually assaulted her. He had threatened her of dire consequences if she revealed this to anyone. Subsequently, the woman became pregnant and her parents, who were shocked to learn this, insisted the woman reveal the identity of the person behind the pregnancy.

Upon repeated inquiry, the woman revealed that Elangovan was the culprit and so the parents lodged a complaint with the Vikkiramangalam police who registered a case and arrested him.

The case was in progress in Ariyalur Mahila Court. On Friday, the Judge Anandan, who heard the case, awarded life till death and a fine of Rs 25,000 to Elangovan.

Subsequently, he was lodged in the Tiruchy Central Prison.
