The six-month pregnant Ramuthai died of botched abortion and her family, who learned about the incident on Tuesday (September 18) was shocked by her death. Her mother Mariammal (60) had few words to say as the grief-stricken family comprising Ramar, husband of the deceased, and the three girl children were deeply mourning her loss. The wailing mother on Saturday said nobody knew what happened actually and how it claimed the life of her daughter Ramuthai.

It was pathetic that Mariammal begged for help to raise the three girls as her family was economically poor.  Ramuthai is survived by her husband Ramar (36), a tractor driver, and her children – Alaguchithra (11), Praveena (6) and Yogalakshmi (3). She sought stringent action against the nurse of a private clinic.

Jayalakshmi (32) of East Street, Thottappanayakanur, Usilampatti taluk, was accused of conducting the abortion illegally in her house, where Ramuthai died.

Pitchaiyammal (45), mother-in-law of Ramuthai, said she could have died on Monday (September 17) itself, as her son Ramar, started searching for his wife in relatives houses.
