CHENNAI: A 28-year-old man allegedly stabbed his wife to death at the Kulithalai Government Hospital in Tamil Nadu’s Karur district early on Sunday. The woman Shruthi was admitted to the hospital on Saturday after her husband Vishruth attacked her during an altercation between the two.

Vishruth has been on the run since the murder, and the police have launched a manhunt for him. The couple had been married for seven years and had two children.

According to sources, Vishruth and Shruthi had a heated argument late on Saturday night at their residence in Karur. During the altercation, Vishruth reportedly assaulted Shruthi, following which she had to be rushed to the Kulithalai Government Hospital.

On Sunday early morning, under the pretext of visiting Shruthi, Vishruth entered the hospital with a concealed knife and stabbed her multiple times on her neck, severely injuring her and killing her on the spot.

Police sources said Vishruth is a car driver from Pattavarthi area in Marudhur near Kulithalai, while Shruthi belonged to Bengaluru.

Vishruth fled the spot before anyone could apprehend him, as hospital staff and patients watched in horror.

Kulithalai police personnel arrived at the hospital shortly after the crime and sent Shruthi’s body for post-mortem. A case of murder has been registered, and a search operation is currently in progress to track down the accused, police said.

The crime has once again turned the focus on patient safety and the lack of security in public healthcare facilities.
