Listing out the announcements made earlier by former CM J Jayalalithaa in enhancing urban health care, Palaniswami observed that the scheme would be instrumental in achieving it, said a release. 

The infrastructure and technological upgradation includes setting up of hybrid operation theatres utilising Japanese technology, advanced X-ray facility, minimal invasive procedures, and endoscopy. 

The project also envisages skill development and training in urban government hospitals at a cost of Rs 20 crore and the subjects covered include hospital management, medical device management, and non-communicable disease prevention care. 

State-of-the-art laboratories would be set up at the regional training centers in Madurai and Chennai and the PHC staff would be trained.
