Vellore
According to TNSTC officials, passengers would be charged Rs 160 for the one-way trip (135 km). “The AC fare is just Rs 10 more than that charged by SETC’s ultra-deluxe buses,” said an official, adding that the conductor-less bus plying on the same route charges Rs 190.
The AC bus, which will be operated twice daily, departs Vellore at 6.30 am and 2 pm. In the return direction, the bus will depart from Chennai at 10 am and 5.30 pm, officials said. A similar service has been started between Chennai and Tiruvannamalai, with the bus leaving from the capital city at 10.30 am and 10.45 pm every day. In the return direction, the bus will depart from Tiruvannamalai at 5.15 am and 5.30 pm. The Chennai-Tiruvannamalai fare would cost Rs 215, officials said.
The bus has cell phone chargers, plush seats, wide overhead storage space and six speakers to inform passengers about the impending stops. The vehicle also has remote-controlled doors and sensors to aid reversing and parking, officials added.
