After the state government announced a ban on public gathering and installation of idols in public places owing to lockdown norms, the Hindu Munnani announced that they would defer the order at any cost and would continue to install the idol in public places.

As a part of their agenda, around 10 members including the BJP General Secretary Jai Sathish, Secretary of Hindu Makkal Katchi Prabhu, and town secretary Sathish Kumar went to the Thanjavur district Collector’s residence and attempted to install a two feet Vinayaka idol and perform pujas.

However, the police prevented them from entering into the Collector’s bungalow. But this led to a heated argument and tension increased. After their efforts had failed, the members took the idol in a car and went to the Kallanai canal via Collectorate and the SP’s office and submerged the idol.
