Goondas Act on quack Anandhi likely

Tiruvannamalai Collector KS Kandasamy has started the process to detain quack Anandhi (52), who performed several abortions without the required qualifications, under the Goondas Act. Anandhi was arrested recently from her ‘clinic’ in Kallakurichi, for the fourth time in 5 years.

Revealing this, the Collector said, Anandhi started an abortion clinic following the same modus operandi of using auto drivers as middlemen to solicit patients. Based on a tipoff provided by a patient, a team of officials went to Kallakurichi under the guise of needing her services and approached 3 auto men. The men then took them to the clinic from where she was arrested for the fifth time. “She was arrested and detained under the goondas act more than a year back and came out on bail only 3 months ago after which she restarted her activities,” Collector averred. Stating that now as she is a habitual offender, the Collector added that using this ground she could be detained under the goondas act. Anandhi was remanded and lodged in the Vellore central prison.
