“Good news in this regard would soon come and it will enthuse farmers,” the Chief Minister said while intervening in an Assembly debate on Wednesday. The state had received a lot of requests from the farmers seeking announcement of the special economic zone. The proposal was announced during a public meeting in Salem and the necessary paper works will be taken up, Palaniswami said. Stating that extensive discussions were held with legal experts on the matter, the Chief Minister asked the Opposition to wait for a few more days.
Observing that only after holding proper and in-depth discussions with legal experts this could be implemented, Palaniswami said adding that a lot of issues must be discussed with legal experts.
Earlier in the day, Stalin asked the state to make sure that the existing hydrocarbon exploration projects in the Delta region were cancelled and make the Delta region free from all gas exploration projects. He also urged the government to introduce a Bill to this effect in the current session.
Pointing out that the ongoing Assembly session will culminate by Thursday, the Leader of Opposition said that the DMK members along with the AIADMK members will support the bill in this effect. Stalin also echoed that the DMK members in Lok Sabha will also raise the isssue in Parliament.
