Gang breaks into school, steals Rs 90,000

A four-member gang broke into a private school in Anaicut in the district and escaped with Rs 98,000 in cash, after allegedly tying up the watchman on Monday night.

Police said the gang, which had entered the school premises by breaking open the lock of the main gate, attacked Perumal (45) of Chinna Anaicut, who was the watchman on duty, and tied him to a chair. The gang after robbing Rs 8,000 from Perumal barged into the administrative office of the school from where it stole Rs 90,000 and fled the spot.

A few persons, who came to the school for morning exercise, released Perumal and also alerted the school authorities. Acting on a complaint, the Anaicut police registered a case and inspected the school. Cops also lifted fingerprints from the crime scene. Further investigations are on.
