Gang attacks women in house, snatches jewels in Thanjavur

Two unidentified men entered a house in Thanjavur on Friday night and attacked three women in the house, before escaping with gold chains weighing 10 sovereigns they were wearing.

Police said the incident happened around 9 pm, when R Thamarai Selvi (58), a retired teacher, along with two others were talking in her house at Pookollai road in Venkateswara Nagar in Thanjavur.

Suddenly, two men wearing half trousers entered the house and assaulted all the three women with wooden logs. They then snatched their jewels and escaped.

The injured women were rescued by neighbours who heard their cries and later taken to a private hospital in Thanjavur.

On information, the Thanjavur Tamil university police rushed to the spot and held inquiry. They have registered a case and are searching for the culprits.
