The arrested were identified as Babu, Amarnath, Muthukumaran, Sridhar and Janardhanan, all from various areas in Vellore district. Police said that Satish, who got estranged from his wife and two children, developed an illicit intimacy with the arrested Babu’s daughter, a plus two student, two years ago.

Wanting to marry her, he had approached her parents. They refused the proposal. As the girl moved to Chennai to study further, he provided her a cell phone to be in touch. When the girl’s parents broke the phone, he bought the girl another phone and continued to talk to her. 

When her parents warned him against continuing the liaison, he taunted them by saying that he would marry the girl without their consent. Enraged at this Babu aided by his relatives, waylaid Satish when he was returning from a local temple festival on a two-wheeler and hacked him to death on Monday.
