Fire accident in Ariyalur cement factory

Investigation is being conducted by factory authorities.

The 40 year old cement factory, owned by Tamil Nadu government, is located in Kallakurichi.

The factory which was expanded at a cost of Rs.200 crore was scheduled to run from April 2019, after the test run on 20/3/2019.

During the test run, fire broke in the conveyor belt carrying lime stone. Even as the employees rushed to extinguish the fire, the conveyor belt was totally burnt and destroyed.

The reason for the fire was found to be short circuit.

The factory authorities are conducting an enquiry.
