Farmers seek post-rain assessment of samba season

The Tiruchy district administration held the farmers’ grievance meet online on Tuesday, despite the associations demanding to convene the meet in the conventional method.

In the online meet, most of the farmers sought post rain assessment and steps to ensure prompt disbursement of compensation.

As soon as the meeting commenced through video conferencing, N Veerasekaran, Coordinator of South and North Ayyan Vaical Ayacutdars Association and Tamil Nadu spokesperson of Bhrathiya Kisan Sangam urged the Collector S Sivarasu to conduct an assessment after the rains as several acres of land had submerged and ready for harvest paddy damaged. He said only a proper assessment would help the farmers to tide over their loss in this samba season.

The Collector assured to establish a team of officials to conduct the study and assess the damage after the rains and would recommend the government to get them compensation.

When Ayilai Siva Suriyan, District Secretary of Tamil Nadu Farmers Association complained that the kudimaramathu scheme was not properly done, the Collector sought a list of waterbodies needed to be desilted.
