The Farmers Grievance Redressal meet was held in Kumbakonam Revenue division that was chaired by the DRO Veerasamy in which the farmers who attended the meet raised slogans to recommend the procurement rate of Rs 3,500 per quintal for the benefit of the farmers.

They said that the present rate of Rs 2,500 is not enough for them as their expenditure reaches almost the same. Meanwhile, the farmers condemned the officials that they were not given prior intimation about the grievance meet and a section of farmers staged a walk out of the meeting raising slogans.

However, the farmers led by the Cauvery Farmers Protection Association Secretary Sundara Vimalnathan, distributed sweets among the officials welcoming the decision of Kerala Government that increased the procurement price to Rs 2,750 per quintal. After distributing sweets, the farmers appealed the officials to recommend the State government to follow Kerala.

Later, they came out of the meeting hall and staged a protest demanding to enhance the procurement price of paddy to Rs 3,500 per quintal.
