Elderly woman jumps to death in Ooty

On receiving information, the fire and rescue personnel rushed to the spot, lifted out her body, and sent it for post-mortem at Ooty Government Hospital. Police are yet to know the reason for her extreme step.

COIMBATORE: A 62-year-old woman committed suicide by jumping off the Doddabetta Peak in The Nilgiris on Sunday. Police identified the deceased as Leelavathi, wife of Natraj from Ragavendra Nagar in Coimbatore. She came to Ooty by bus and took an auto to reach Doddabetta Peak. Tourists, who had gathered in large numbers, had warned her against going past the safety barricade. However, she went ahead and jumped off into the deep gorge. On receiving information, the fire and rescue personnel rushed to the spot, lifted out her body, and sent it for post-mortem at Ooty Government Hospital. Police are yet to know the reason for her extreme step.
