The students, including KV Udit Surya and Rishikanth from Chennai, were charged with impersonation to get seats to pursue medicine. They were arrested by the CB-CID and later released on conditional bail.

The students, in a petition before the High Court, said they would be able to pursue higher studies only if they get their seized mark statements of SSLC and Plus Two. Justice R Pongiappan, after hearing the plea, granted the same.
