DMK and MNM cancel party activities till March 31

The principal opposition party DMK and Kamal Haasan-led Makkal Needhi Maiam (MNM) have suspended all their party activities in border districts till March 31 owing to COVID-19 threat.

DMK president MK Stalin on Monday advised to his party functionaries in Theni, Kanniyakumari, Tirupur, Coimbatore, The Nilgiris, Krishnagiri, Tirunelveli, Tenkasi, Tiruvallur, Vellore, Tirupattur, Ranipet, Erode, Dindigul, Dharmapuri and Virudhunagar districts to suspend all party activities till the month end in accordance with the precautionary measures suggested by Tamil Nadu government to prevent spread of COVID-19 in the state through border districts. The DMK has joined actor Kamal Haasan’s Makkal Needhi Maiam in suspending party activities in view of the pandemic.


In a statement, MNM vice president Dr R Mahendran said that with the panic among the public over the fast spreading coronavirus, Kamal has advised to suspend all the public meetings and meetings planned across the state till March 31.


“Apart from protecting our hygiene, it is our duty to protect the hygiene of the fellow person. As a responsible citizen, each one should take precautionary measures from the coronavirus to save the mankind,” he said.
