December 14 deadline to axe Seemai Karuvelam : HC

The Madras High Court (Madurai Bench) has directed the Madurai Corporation to remove Seemai Karuvelam plant in the stretch between District Court at Madurai and High Court.

Petitioner, Pattu Rajan, former Madurai Mayor, in his petition, claimed that the Seemai Karuve lam plant had grown extensively in Madurai and had destroyed the groundwater resource at Madurai. Though it was taken to the knowledge of Madurai Corporation no action was taken claimed Pattu Rajan. When the case came up for hearing earlier, the Court had directed Madurai Corporation Commissioner, Sandeep Nanduri, to appear to file counter. On Wednesday, Sandeep Nanduri appeared in the court. During the argument PP claimed that See mai Karuvelam plants in lands belonging to Corporation were removed. However the counsel of the petitioner argued that the See mai Karuvelam plants were not removed in road sides. Following the arguments Judges directed the Corporation to remove the Seemai Karuvelam plants on the stretch between District Court at Madurai and High Court complex before December 14.
