One Hameeda Beevi of Thanjavur was detained for trying to smuggle 120 gram gold chain from Sri Lanka to Madurai. Her curtsy behaviour during the checking procedures made customs askance her. She was interrogated by the women officers.

Based on a tip-off that the Sri Lankan airlines flight bound to Madurai had contraband goods, the deputy commissioner of special intelligence wing of customs was alerted. The reluctant Hameeda Beevi hid the gold chain in her inners, it was worth Rs 3,80,300.  

Smuggling incidents and detaining are in rife in the recent years. With tightening of the procedures, modus operandi of smuggling too has become more novel.
