CRPF cop held for vandalising Periyar statue

A statue of social reformer and Dravidian movement icon EV Ramasamy, popularly known as ‘Periyar’, was found damaged in a village here on Tuesday, the latest in a series of similar incidents of vandalism. The head of the statue was missing

Through the CCTV footage collected from the area around the statue, Alangudi police arrested a CRPF personnel S Senthil (40), a resident of Pudukkottai Viduthi and head constable with 150 Battalion of CRPF in Chhattisgarh State. He is here on vacation. 

In his confession, Senthil said he was in an inebriated condition when he climbed atop the platform and smashed the head off. He was produced before Alangudi judicial magistrate court and remanded in judicial custody for 15 days.
