Vellore Central Jail officials initially brought Murugan to the same hospital earlier in the evening where after a checkup he was again taken back to the prison, but as he suddenly became very weak and was on the verge of fainting he was brought back to the hospital the same night and admitted.

It may be recalled that Murugan had started an indefinite fast demanding his release from the prison failing which he sought mercy killing. However, as the Governor was yet to decide on the matter, Murugan continued to fast in support of his demands.

His lawyer Pughazhendhi contended that jail officials were not allowing Murugan to talk to his co-convict wife Nalini in the nearby women’s prison after it was discovered that his mobile conversation with Nalini was connected to an international call to relatives a month ago.

Pughazhendhi said Nalini was in the dark about Murugan’s physical condition as she would also have started a fast in support of her husband if she knew the truth. Murugan’s health condition is being monitored by medical personnel.
