After the shooting for the film ‘Vayakkatu Maappilai’ at Perumanallur in Erode district, he wanted to take a bus to Salem and was walking towards the bus stand. Police quoted the actor as saying that as he was walking to catch an omni bus to Chennai, at 1 am, a man walked up to him and introduced himself as his fan.

Trying to help him, the stranger asked him to get into an autorickshaw. There were two others in the vehicle already and  Kottachi became suspicious. Police said that the strangers took him on the Salem-Bengaluru Highway. When the vehicle reached Mamangam near Suramangalam the trio grabbed his mobile phone and pushed him out of the vehicle.

They snatched his two sovereign gold chain and wallet. With the help of passers-by, he reached the police station and got the FIR registered at the Suramangalam police on Monday afternoon.
