KARUR: The Government Railway Police (GRP) on Tuesday arrested ten college students, including a minor, for a clash over college rivalry at Korattur railway station a day ago.

Students of Presidency College were traveling in the suburban train from Chennai to Arakkonam. When the train halted at Korattur railway station, students from a rival college who noticed the other students started pelting stones at the train coach.

Passengers in the train hid themselves behind the seats and alerted the Railway Protection Force (RPF) personnel. Nobody was injured in the attack, the police said.

Based on a complaint, the GRP (Perambur) conducted an inquiry. The probe revealed that the attack was in retaliation for a clash that broke out between the two groups at Vyasarpadi Jeeva Railway Station last week. While the nine students were remanded in judicial custody, the minor boy was sent to an observation home.
