College student dies after falling under govt bus in Tiruvannamalai

CHENNAI: A 17-year-old college student died on Friday after slipping while trying to board a crowded government bus at Polur bus stand in Tiruvannamalai district.

The victim, Balasubramanian, a native of Puthirampattu near Polur, was a first year BCom student at Tiruvannamalai Government Arts College.

According to police, Balasubramanian was waiting at the Polur bus stand in the morning to travel to college. A government bus from Vellore to Tiruvannamalai stopped at the stand, and as passengers rushed to board, the student attempted to get into the vehicle.

Police said that in the rush, the student lost his footing and slipped. He came under the rear wheel of the bus and suffered fatal head injuries, Daily Thanthi reported.

Passengers raised an alarm, and the Polur police were informed. Officers reached the spot, recovered the body, and sent it to Tiruvannamalai Government Hospital for post-mortem.

A case has been registered, and further investigation is under way.
