Responding to Leader of Opposition MK Stalin in the Assembly, Palaniswami said the Lok Pal Amendments Bill was pending before the Centre and the state would take into accounts the amendments and frame a Bill without it contravening with the primary Lokpal and Lok Ayukta Act, 2013.

Speaking on the motion thanking the Governor’s speech, Stalin referred to the lack of mention of Lok Ayukta in the “statement of policy” and wondered why the government was hesitating to constitute a body to eliminate corruption. Suggesting that the government shall not await the Centre’s nod as it was being introduced in Andhra and Karnataka Stalin sought immediate constitution of Lok Ayukta in the state.

Intervening, Palaniswami said the Centre had decided to amend the 2013 Act following which he on February 14, 2016, directed the committee to wait for it.

The draft frame work was being compared with Lok Ayukta Act implemented in other states for refinement, the CM added.
