Sources close to Animal Husbandry Minister Udumalai K Radhakrishnan said, “Chief Minister has given the date on February 7 to lay foundation stone for veterinary park. Unlike video conferencing, Chief Minister will visit the spot directly and will lay the foundation stone since the veterinary park is his ambitious project.”
The veterinary park will be the largest Integrated Veterinary Park in Asia to be setup at the cost of Rs 396 crore, in 900 acres. The veterinary park officially named as Advanced Institute for Integral Research in Livestock and Animal Sciences (AIIRLAS) has four wings such as Livestock Farm Complex, Livestock Products Technology Complex, Extension education, Skill Training and Research complex and Veterinary College and Research Institute (VCRI).
Though the government has decided to setup AIIRLAS, administrative sanction has been given only for VCRI and Rs 82.13 crore has been allotted for the establishment of the college. VCRI will have the capacity of 80 seats out of which 40 seats will be offered initially from 2020-21. From 2021-22, the number of seats will be increased to 80.
