CHENNAI: Chief Minister MK Stalin hit out at the BJP, attributing motives behind sending a delegation of MPs from the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) to Karur in the aftermath of the stampede tragedy during actor Vijay's political rally, pointing out that the State went through multiple tragedies in the past without any saffron party team landing in to help or find facts.

Stalin said that the BJP sent the delegation not out of genuine concern and termed the visit a cheap act, only to get political mileage for the 2026 State Assembly elections. What is the reason for sending a delegation with such urgency to Karur, when they had ignored, at times, tragedy struck in the past, he asked. “BJP did not send such delegations for Manipur violence, the Gujarat Morbi bridge collapse, or the deaths in the Maha Kumbh Mela stampede," Stalin said in a social media post.

He alleged that Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, who failed to visit Tamil Nadu following three major natural disasters, was "now rushing to Karur" solely for scoring political mileage ahead of elections.

Saying that the BJP has a habit of riding on someone else's back and is a parasite that sucks others' blood, Stalin alleged that the saffron party intends to use the Karur stampede to find ways to keep someone under its control, in a veiled reference to TVK president Vijay.

"Whichever mask you wear, no matter how many slaves you mobilise, Tamil Nadu will always remain out of control for you," he said, referring to the BJP.
