Vellore: Following instructions from the top brass, all police personnel in Vellore, Ranipet, Tirupattur, and Tiruvannamalai districts undertook a mass cleaning drive of their premises on Saturday.

The drive was overseen by Vellore range DIG Anne Vijaya and Vellore district SP S Rajesh Kannan.

The drive included cleaning all the 99 police stations in the Vellore range, dusting up files, and removing accumulated garbage if any, from the premises.

The drive-in Vellore district included 23 police stations, 4 all-women police stations, the Vellore district police office near the collectorate, police quarters attached to individual police stations, and the 200 quarters for armed reserve police personnel.

Seized vehicles piled up in individual police stations would also soon be removed, officials averred.

While the exercise will be the norm every second Saturday, the amused public who witnessed the hustle and bustle wondered why cops could not ensure cleanliness on a daily basis.
