According to police, the accused Vignesh and his wife Prabavathi were arrested from their native Tiruvarur district on Saturday night and the baby was rescued, a day after being stolen from the hospital.

Police said the accused befriended the baby’s parents Selvam and Selvarani, hailing from Cuddalore and working in Tiruppur as daily wagers in a textile firm. Selvarani had delivered twins in CMCH in October last year. The accused couple accompanied them to CMCH to get a birth certificate for the twins on Friday. At the hospital, Vignesh asked Selvam to check for a job vacancy in the railway station.

While he was away, Prabavathi took one of the babies to check weight nearby. When they didn’t turn up, Selvam and Selvarani lodged a police complaint.
