Chief Minister Edappadi Palanisamy releases book on the life of Sri Ramanujar

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Edappadi K Palanisamy, on Wednesday, released a book on Vaishnavite Saint Sri Ramanujar, as part of the Saint’s 1,000th birth anniversary celebrations. The book, which narrates the history of the reformer sage with pictorial representations is titled “Ramanujar Vainava Maanidhi.” It is available in English, Tamil and Telugu.

The first copy of the book was received by HR & CE Minister Sevoor S Ramachandran at a ceremony in the secretariat. 

An official release stated that following the announcement of late chief minister J Jayalalithaa in the Assembly on September 1, 2016, the construction of a special Mani Mandapam for Sri Ramanujar at Sriperumbudur, where he was born, has commenced. The work estimated at Rs 6 crore has been on in a 2.77 acre plot belonging to the Adi Kesava Perumal Temple in Sriperumbudur. A sum of Rs 86 lakh has been spent to renovate the above said temple recently, the release added. 

It further added that the announcement made under sec 110 of the Assembly rules included, seeking financial help estimated at Rs 403 crore from the Asian Development Bank (ADB), for improvement of infrastructure in important tourist destinations.

Chief Secretary Girija Vaidyanathan, tourism secretary Apoorva Varma and HR & CE commissioner M Veer Shanmuga Mony were present at the book release.

New office for Differently Abled Commissionerate 

Meanwhile, in another function chief minister Palanisamy inaugurated a Rs 3.74 crore building for the office of the commissioner, differently abled department, inside the Lady Willingdon College premises in Triplicane. The office has come up on a 1,035 square metre site. 

Speaking on the occasion, he said that the new building would enable the department to cover the welfare of the differently abled from various parts of the state, while working for their increased security. 

Finance Minister D Jayakumar, Social Welfare Minister Dr V Saroja and Tamil Nadu Text Book Committee chairperson P Valarmathi were present.
