Census 2020 to commence from June

The State government is all set to commence the census enumeration from June, according to official sources.

Talking to this reporter after a meeting of the Tirupattur Collector MP Sivan Arul, Ranipet Collector S Divyadharshini and Vellore officers, officials conveyed that teachers would be drafted to carry out the exercise, which would last for 45 days. The previous census was taken in 2011.


Since Vellore Collector A Shanmuga Sundaram was away to participate in a mass contact programme at Senji village in KV Kuppam panchayat union, DRO J Parthiban represented the Vellore district at the meeting.


While Tirupattur Collector said the National Population Register (NPR) was not discussed, officials who participated in the meeting said that it was decided that teams comprising of two or three officials would visit 100 households each during the 45-day exercise. “Teachers will be paid Rs 500 per head per day for carrying out this exercise,” they added.


It was a closed door meeting and media was denied entry.
