CB-CID custody of Virudhunagar rape case accused ends

MADURAI: Amidst tight security, four persons accused in the sexual harassment case concerning a Dalit woman in Virudhunagar were produced before the Special Court for SC /ST (POA) Act, Srivilliputhur on Monday. On March 29, the Special Court granted seven days of custody of the four accused to the Crime Branch CID.

After such an incident came to light eight persons, including four juvenile offenders, were arrested by a special team in Virudhunagar on March 21. Virudhunagar Rural police had initially filed the case against the accused under various Sections, including 376 of IPC and SC/ST Act, but later the case was transferred to the CB-CID.
