Burgler from Chennai arrested in Vellore

A habitual offender against whom cases were pending in Chennai, Vellore and Krishnagiri districts was detained under the Goondas Act by Vellore collector SA Raman on Tuesday. Police said that investigations into the theft of one kilo gold from a pawn shop owned by Awathaman (37) of Poigai near Vellore on January 22 resulted in the cops checking CCTV footage.

The video revealed a masked intruder burgling the shop. Further investigation revealed that the person responsible for the theft was Radhakrishnan (33) of Red hills, who had 16 cases of robbery, theft and waylaying pending against him. Police arrested the accused in Vellore on February 4 and lodged him in Vellore Central Prison and detained him under the Goondas Act.
