Building collapses in blast, 2 hurt

A two-storeyed building, where fireworks materials were kept in Sivakasi collapsed after an explosion on Monday. The blast occurred around 3 pm, when six persons were inside the building at Nehruji Nagar near Satchiyapuram, Reserve Line

Virudhunagar Collector J Meghanatha Reddy said that preliminary enquiry revealed that two were stuck inside the ill-fated building where fireworks tubes were kept. Two persons escaped with injuries.

Thirty brigades with the aid of five earthmovers were engaged in clearing the debris and searched for survivors, Fire and Rescue Services sources said. Sources said the two injured Velmurugan (38) and Manoj Kumar (24) were admitted to Sivakasi Government Hospital with 20 and 40 per cent burns and were said to be out of danger.
