Budget session of UT Assembly from Aug 19

The Budget session of the territorial assembly here will commence on August 19 with the customary address by Lt. Governor Kiran Bedi. The session is expected to last till the end of the month.

Chief Minister V Narayanasamy, who is holding the Finance portfolio, will present the annual budget for 2019-20 on August 21.


Though the annual budget should be presented in March, for the past eight years, a vote on account is being passed in the Assembly to meet the government expenses for the first five months of the financial year and the regular budget is presented in the month of August.


The session is expected to be lively with the opposition raking up issues such as reservation for Economically Weaker Section (EWS), new educational policy, financial crunch in the administration, besidesconflict between the Chief Minister and PWD Minister Namasivayam.
