Bribe expose: Another jail official suspended

An assistant jailor of Sankarankoil sub-jail was placed under suspension on Sunday by the prisons headquarters following an inquiry into the corruption inside the prison in Tenkasi.

Sources said assistant jailor ‘Palkhoa’ Arumugham has been placed under suspension after Palayamkottai Central jail superintendent Krishna Kumar conducted an inquiry inside the jail on Saturday.

This newspaper had carried a report on the chief head warder Vairamani calling up the colleague of a jailed man to demand bribe. In an audio clip, Vairamani was heard telling the colleague that he wasted Rs 14,000 paid as bribe to a jail staff, as the latter did not extend any special treatment to the prisoner. Instead, if the money was paid to him, the prisoner would receive special care, the official was heard offering in the clip. After placing Vairamani under suspension on Saturday, an inquiry was carried out found out that Arumugham received the Rs 14,000 Vairamani was referring to.
