Body of baby girl washes ashore in Kovai

The body of a new born girl in a bag washed ashore in Bhavani river near Mettupalayam on Sunday.

The villagers, who noticed the bag, informed the Mettupalayam police. A police team led by inspector CN Chennakesavan rushed to the spot and sent the body of the baby for autopsy to the Mettupalayam Government Hospital.


Police retrieved a card tied to the body of the baby, which had the father’s name as Chinnaraj and mothers name as Kushbu and that the baby was born on April 6. However, they were no details about from where they hail.


Police have registered a case and are investigating if the parents had thrown away the child. Police also said that the exact reason for the death of the baby will be known after they get the autopsy report. Further investigation is on.
