BJP leader quotes Gita to justify police action

BJP senior leader and former MP L Ganesan said, “there is nothing wrong in police firing at protesters considering the fact that if shooting is not carried out there might be even bigger losses.”

Ganesan is not the first BJP leader from the state to come out in support of police firing as recently BJP National Secretary H Raja expressed a similar opinion in support of police firing against anti-CAA protesters in Assam, Karnataka and Uttar Pradesh. “Bhagavat Gita says that there is nothing wrong in authorities using power to cull down violence and on the basis of Gita I support the police firing sincethe police have the authority to control violence,”said Ganesan.

He also came in support of the statement of actor Rajinikanth made in connection to the ongoing protests. “Protests can be undertaken in a democratic manner and violence should not accompany the protests. This has been the stand of BJP and Rajinikanth has said the same, but opposition parties who want violence oppose Rajinikanth’s statement,” said Ganesan.
