As on Monday at 4pm, the dam reached 104.41 feet as against its full reservoir capacity of 105 feet. With a good inflow of 7,422 cusecs, the dam is inching faster towards its full capacity. PWD officials express hope that the dam may reach its FRL in not more than a couple of days due to steady inflow.

The dam has a storage of 32,303 mcft as against its capacity of 32,800 mcft and the outflow from the dam is recorded at 2,700 cusecs.

Though Bhavanisagar dam is 130 ft high, water can be stored only at a height of 120 ft. If the dam were to receive surplus water, the entire quantity would be diverted to lower Bhavani project ayacut canal and old ayacuts of Bhavani River, including Kalingarayan, Thadapalli and Arakkankotta.

The dam is the primary water source for more than 2.5 lakh acres spread across Erode, Karur and Tirupur districts. Similarly, the Mettur dam, which reached its full reservoir level a week ago, continues to maintain its full reservoir level of 120 feet.
