Bail plea of Customs officials dismissed

The CBI court in Madurai on Thursday dismissed the bail plea of Customs officials, who were detained in gold smuggling case at Tiruchi airport earlier this month.

The bail petition filed by Customs Superintendents, including Kalugasalamoorthy and S Ramakrishnan and Inspectors – S Anees Fathima and Freddy Edward came up for hearing before Additional District Judge S Ganesan. A total of 19 accused, including six officials of Customs Department were arrested in connection with the case. 

Earlier, they were produced before this court on August 7 and the accused were lodged in Madurai Central Prison. The investigating agency booked them under Section 120 B (criminal conspiracy) and various sections of the Prevention of Corruption Act.
