The couple Meena from Nainampatty near Attayampatty and her husband Raja made the sensational complaint on Monday against her ownparents, who were against their love marriage in November, 2017. After marriage, the couple worked in a textile firm in Tirupur, where Meena delivered a baby boy at Tirupur Government Hospital in June this year. As the health condition of Meena deteriorated after delivery, her parents took her along for treatment in a private hospital in Salem.

“My parents spun a story that both my husband and baby were no more. They also kept me locked up in the house for over two months,” she said in her petition to Collector.

Meanwhile, Meena, who came to know from her relatives that her parents had sold out the baby, had managed to rejoin her husband recently in Tirupur district. On receiving the petition Salem Collector SA Raman forwarded the petition to Attayampatty police for an inquiry.

The police on coming to know that the baby is in the possession of a relative in Tirunavalur in Villupuram district swung into action and rescued the baby. The baby was brought to Salem and is left in the care of an orphanage; while efforts are on to give it to the parents.

Police said that Meena was mentally disturbed after delivery. “Hence her parents assumed that she could not raise the baby on her own and gave it to their relative couple, who were childless. However, they did not receive any money for giving the baby,” police said.

Police said that the baby had now been rescued and will soon be handed over to its parents.
