AMMK announces first list of candidates

Amma Makkal Munnetra Kazhagam (AMMK), on Sunday, released the first list of candidates for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections and also for the bypolls to 18 State Assembly constituencies.

The first list features the names of 24 candidates for 24 Lok Sabha constituencies and nine candidates for nine assembly constituencies. The list of 24 names includes that of four former MLAs, a former Minister and a retired IAS officer.


Former MLAs Pon Raja will contest in Tiruvallur constituency, Vanoor N Ganapathy in Villupuram constituency, Veerapandi SK Selvam in Salem constituency and M Rajasekar from Perambalur constituency.


Tiruchy former Mayor Charubala Thondaman will contest from Tiruchy constituency. The list also includes several educationists including P Murugesan, Chancellor, PRIST University, Thanjavur, who will contest in Thanjavur constituency. Retired IAS officer M Ramasamy will contest from Nilagiri constituency against former Telecom Minister A Raja.


Social Democratic Party of India (SDPI), on Sunday, announced Dehlan Baqavi, State president, SDPI, as candidate for the Central Chennai constituency, in AMMK alliance. SDPI is the only party to have alliance with AMMK.
