AIADMK’s banner war surfaces in Coimbatore

The mushrooming of banners with pictures of former chief minister J Jayalalithaa’s niece J Deepa continues. On Sunday, a section of the cadre erected a banner naming her as ‘Junior Amma’ and to accept her leadership at Kurichi on the Pollachi Main Road in Coimbatore city.

The banner was erected by a few autorickshaws drivers and small scale traders in the locality who claim to be AIADMK loyalists for decades. Autorickshaw driver S Chandran said that he is with the party for 25 years. “There are doubts over the demise of former chief minister and party general secretary Jayalalithaa. We cannot accept V K Sasikala as the party’s general secretary or as ‘Chinnamma’ as called by a few party leaders,” he said.

Flower seller M S Ravichandran said we are true AIADMK loyalists. “We will accept either Deepa or O Panneerselvam. ‘Amma’ has trusted OPS twice and made him the Chief Minister. We will quit the party if Sasikala becomes the party general secretary,” he added. Less than half a mile from the banner of Deepa, three banners erected by the AIADMK at Sundarapuram were found damaged. Miscreants allegedly threw black paint on the image of Sasikala. The banners were removed and inquiry is on.
