CHENNAI: AIADMK general secretary Edappadi K Palaniswami on Sunday refuted Chief Minister MK Stalin’s allegations on the implementation of election promises made during the previous AIADMK regime.

Addressing a public meeting at Thiruporur in Kancheepuram district during the final phase of his “Makkalai Kappom, Thamizhagathai Meetpom” campaign, Palaniswami asserted that the AIADMK had completed 95 per cent of its commitments while in power.

Responding to Stalin’s recent remarks in Kallakurichi that the AIADMK can't match even five per cent of welfare schemes completed by the incumbent, EPS charged that it was the present DMK government which had fulfilled only five per cent of the assurances listed in its 2021 manifesto.

Referring to the promise to increase employment guarantee under MGNREGS from 100 to 150 days, he said it was the AIADMK that urged the Centre to raise the working days to 125 and accused the DMK of failing to implement its own commitment.

He alleged that Tamil Nadu had been pushed into a severe debt situation under the DMK government, claiming that borrowings had increased by nearly Rs 5 lakh crore in the last five years.

Palaniswami reiterated that if the AIADMK is voted back to power in 2026, corruption cases, including those related to Tasmac and alleged irregularities in the Municipal Administration Department, would be probed.

He assured that welfare schemes such as free laptops for students and subsidies for women’s scooters, introduced during the AIADMK’s tenure but stalled by the DMK, would be resumed once the party returns to power.
