4 posing as cops held for waylaying public in Ariyalur

Four people were on Wednesday arrested in Ariyalur district for reportedly impersonating policemen and waylaying the public.

According to sources, Pudumai Sekar (44), a lorry driver from Bhuthalur in Thanjavur district was on his way to Pudukkottai from Chennai with a load of cattle feed. When he was nearing Kallur branch road near Keezha Pazhuvur in Ariyalur district, the lorry was stopped by four people who identified themselves as police patrolling the area, and reportedly snatched Rs 500 from him, besides his mobile phone.


Pudumai Sekar then lodged a complaint with the Keezha Pazhuvur police who registered a case and arrested A Vijay (20), S Kalaivanan (24), K Balamurugan (22), P Veeramani (19)-all from Keezha Kolathur in Thanjavur.


Upon interrogation, the police found that they were into waylaying the public in Ariyalur for a long time, although they didn’t any attempt house-breaking. The four were subsequently arrested.
