4 killed in road accident in Madurai

Four people were killed and one injured in an accident on Thiruparankundram Road near Jaihindpuram here on Wednesday night. The incident happened when a private omni bus, allegedly driven in a rash manner, hit two two-wheelers in tandem, leaving a 14-year-old girl also dead.

Investigation revealed that bus driver A. Dharmaraj swerved to the wrong side of the road to avoid hitting an approaching two-wheeler, but collided with not just the vehicle but also another that was trailing behind. The deceased were identified as N. Jothi (34), a traffic constable, Sathyavani (44) and her daughter Suryakala (14), and P. Ananthan (22). While three succumbed to injuries on the spot, Ananthan passed away in hospital. S. Praveen (40), who accompanied Ananthan as pillion, is being treated in a private hospital. The bus driver has been held.
